The Lakewood Business Association was established in 2005 so that the businesses owners could cooperatively promote, protect, and preserve our shopping center. If you are interested in joining our group, please contact us.
We have monthly meetings. The important items on our agenda right now are the VIP (Volunteers in Patrol) program and the promotion to alleviate the panhandling problem. Our VIPs are being trained by the Dallas Police Department to deter crime and panhandling in the shopping center in a non-confrontational manner. We hope the public understands that most of the panhandling problem in our shopping center is done by chronic panhandlers who have found the shopping center an easy target, especially at lunch and dinner. Few of them are really homeless, and most of them have criminal records. In order to keep the panhandlers out of the shopping center, we must not give them money. Instead please consider giving to your local charity, church, or shelters that work with the homeless in our community.
